Accomodation at Young Life College

Household

Household

Everyone who lives at the Young Life College is not simply a tenant or a resident, but actually a member of a loving, worshipping and praying family, who love Jesus, who have fun together, and who do ministry as a team. The household consists of full time Abide trainees, Uni students, and highly committed Young Life leaders, who are led by the residential mentors.

A 10 minute walk from the Young Life College takes you to the Armidale CBD, including Coles and Aldi, where shopping for necessities can be done. Once at the edge of the CBD, busses leave for UNE at intervals of 30 minutes throughout the day. And additional 10 minute walk gets one to TAFE. These reasons make the Young Life College ideal student accommodation in the town.

Discipleship

Discipleship

Staff at the Young Life College take the mission of the College very seriously:  to train young leaders for spiritual maturity and effective youth evangelism, in a caring Christian community.

To this end, regular household discipleship activities include

  • Community meals, especially Thursday cooked dinners, which is followed by ½ hour devotions;
  • Gender specific breakfast Bible studies, run by the residential mentors, fortnightly.

In these Bible studies, some the following content is covered, depending on the needs of the residents at the time:

  • 7 Basic Bible studies
  • Swedish Bible study method – Romans
  • Evangelistic Training, for example ‘Two ways to live’
  • Training on reading the Bible one-one
  • Gender specific studies – e.g. on sexuality, porn, etc.
Training

Training

Residents of Young Life College have a number of Young Life training options available to them.
The Young Life online learning platform, YL Hub, hosts all the basic Young Life training courses. These enable people to become familiar with the principles of Young Life ministries. Resident leaders and volunteers work through these courses to equip them further in the ministry they are doing. Regular discussion groups are held at the Young Life College that unpack these principles, and are attended by residents and non-resident Young Life volunteers.

Young Life Internship coaching is available for residents at the Young Life College, which explore Young Life methods with more scrutiny, while feedback and grading is given for assignments.

Most importantly, all Young Life leaders and volunteers are observed and coached in practical hands on ministry by experienced Young Life staff, learning by doing, the Young Life way.
