Young Life staff & volunteer leaders are having a real, positive impact around Maroondah. Young Life is currently active around the high school communities of: Croydon Secondary College (since 2002) and Maroondah Secondary College (since 2003) and is seeking to build support to launch another team of leaders into a third school as soon as possible. Here are some examples of what others have said about Young Life: Principal: “When I was approached..(about YL serving in Croydon S.C.)..I thought it was ‘too good to be true’. However I was wrong. All promises have been delivered and the students & staff have benefited enormously…It would be terrific if such Young Life teams could operate in all schools” Geoff Roberts, Croydon S.C. (2002) Student: “Young Life has changed my life” – Yr 10 student (2004) Parent: “Anna from Young Life would come and pick Rachel* up from my house, take her to activities and bring her home again…It has taken a long time but I am now seeing a more mature girl who is passing school, learning respect for those around her and is enjoying life in a healthy way…..I believe they (Young Life leaders) have this amazing ability to turn young lives around… into secure, happy people with prospects for a great future” (*not her real name) Vice-Principal: “Their work here at Croydon Secondary College (Young Life leaders) is invaluable – we are so lucky to have the team with us…I really value and respect the work that they do and applaud the difference that they make”. Carol Ashton, Croydon S.C. (2004) Federal MP: “Organisations such as Young Life have an important role to play. Parents and teachers are a very important part of the picture, but committed volunteers who build friendships with kids can make an enormous difference in their lives.” The Hon Dr Brendan Nelson, Federal Minister for Education, Science & Training (2003) Federal MP: “The volunteer leaders do a great job in bridging the gap in many young people’s lives. This is achieved by being available, positive, adult role models who can relate to the world of a teenager. The work of Young Life is a real benefit to our community, and contrasts against the constant negative media attention relating to young people in our society.” Mr Phillip Barresi MP – Deakin (2004) Wanting to know more about how Young Life works and how you could be involved?
