Youth Outreach Ministry | Dubbo Field Staff | Part-Time Position

Young Life Australia is looking for a part-time worker to start a new program in Dubbo – Wyld Life! 

Wyld Life in Dubbo will be our ministry aimed at unchurched young people in Grades 3 – 6 at school. This is a new position for Young Life Dubbo and we aim to have it running from January 2019.

Young Life is a non-denominational Christian charity with a unique and dynamic ministry model based on a relational approach to young people outside the usual reach of the local church.  We are seeking a spiritually mature person with a heart for outreach to work with volunteers and young people in Dubbo.

What will the role look like? The applicant will be able to demonstrate an active Christian faith and will be involved in a church community; have the ability to gather and release a missional community of volunteers; have confidence in engaging with young people; and have good communication skills to liaise with families and community stakeholders.

You will coordinate an after-school program for young people one afternoon per week. Other tasks include:  attending activities with the young people we’re working with, meeting 1:1 with your volunteers, attending local and national camps with volunteers and kids from our programs, discipling young people, meeting with prospective donors and asking if they would like to partner with our mission, and meeting with the Young Life Central West team.  It’s a dynamic and varied role with the heart of it being all about seeing young people having the opportunity to hear about Jesus, to be discipled if they choose and plugged in to a local church.  The role includes occasional evening and weekend work. Flexible work arrangements are offered.

You will be responsible for recruiting, training and caring for volunteers and implementing all aspects of Young Life’s ministry model including: programs both in and out of schools, clubs, and attending local and national camping activities. Individual support raising, as well as fundraising with the local support committee will provide funding for this role. Training will be provided.

The role will be supervised by the Dubbo Area Manager, supported by a local committee, and part of a staff team from Bathurst, Dubbo and Warren.

REQUIRED SKILLS | You need to have:

  • a committed Christian faith, and active in a faith community
  • a heart for the wider church, and the ability to work in an inter-denominational team
  • empathy and experience in relating well with young people and their families
  • professionalism and experience in relating well with other stakeholders, both in the Christian and secular environment
  • capacity to recruit, train and release teams of volunteers
  • capacity to lead and to effectively delegate responsibility
  • willingness to raise individual financial support
  • self-motivation and an ability to work autonomously
  • good reporting and process management skills
  • a willingness for accountability to meet set targets & agreed KPIs
  • excellent verbal & written communication skills
  • flexibility to be able to engage in activities outside usual work hours (including weekends and overnight trips at times)
  • a current unrestricted driver licence

HIGHLY DESIRABLE | It would be helpful if you have:

  • a qualification and/or experience in the youth sector or ministry (previous experience will be recognised in place of a qualification if the experience is appropriate)
  • previous management experience of staff and/or volunteers
  • background in youth-related not-for-profit Christian mission
  • accredited first aid certificate
