Dylan* is just thirteen years old, but his life is far from that of an average teenager. He misses a lot on school, doesn’t have significant friendships, doesn’t attend after school activities and has had heavy responsibilities at home as a primary carer.
Young Life is dedicated to supporting young people like Dylan so they can thrive in spite of their hardship.
Dylan’s life began to turn around when a youth drop-in centre opened its doors directly across from his school, where he encountered “a safe space, friendly people and free food”. He made new friends and discovered “a sense of belonging that he had never felt before”.
Dylan was sponsored to the recent Young Life Summer Camp, the week that changed his life! He was encouraged, challenged, stirred and filled with Hope.
For Dylan, the Young Life drop-in centre continues to be a safe space where he is known, loved and valued.
Young Life comes into contact with around 5,000 young people like Dylan each year. We hear of broken families, neglect, loneliness, bullying, substance abuse, depression, anxiety and the list goes on. Hundreds of them are disengaged and vulnerable, and there are hundreds more that we would like to reach.
